Autumn 1 2022 Competition Round Up

Cross Country: Well done to the children in years 3&4, and years 5&6 who represented us at Longcroft School for the Cross-Country competition. We took over 40 children, which was brilliant. Thank you to all of the staff and parents to helped us take everyone down. All of the children were brilliant: they represented the school well with great behaviour; they all persevered and tried their hardest during their races; and they encouraged and cheered on each other and the other schools. We were all very proud of all of them. Elsie came 3rd in the Y3/4 Girls’ race, and our Y3/4 Girls’ Team finished in 2nd place behind Molescroft. Max came 3 rd in the Y3/4 Boys’ race. Again, our team finished second, only 4 points behind Molescroft. Maggie came 2nd in the Y5/6 Girls’ race and the Y5/6 Girls’ Team came 3rd behind Cherry Burton and Molescroft. Finally, for the Y5/6 Boys’ race, Freddie came 1st and Sebastian came 2nd. Overall, again the Y5/6 Boys’ Team finished 2nd behind Molescroft. Our medal winners were invited to the second round which took place on 18th October at Cottingham High School. Again, we were very proud of all of the children who took part. They all finished strongly in the top half of the field. Max and Freddie both finished 4th in their races and Maggie finished 8th in hers. Well done to everyone, and thank you to the families for your support at these events.

Year 5&6 Football: Well done to all our children who took part in the football competition. We played four matches – against Swinemoor, St Nick’s, Minster, and Molescroft. They all played well and were especially tight in defence against some very strong opposition. The children worked well as a team and were very responsible and showed great respect to the adults and each other as everyone took turns being a sub. We won one (Molescroft), drew one (Minster) and lost two (St Nick’s 0-1 and Swinemoor 0 - 3). Well done to Swinemoor who won all of their matches and will progress to the next round.

Our Year 5/6 boys football club held an inter-house competition over 3 lunchtimes. Well done to everyone who took part and thank you to Mark from Goalsports for running this.

Year 3 Rainbow Run – National Fitness Day Our year 3 children enjoyed taking part in a 1.5km run at Hull University on National Fitness Day. They all worked really hard and everyone finished in front of Mrs A-C! After their run, they had the opportunity to try some tri-golf activities as well which they thoroughly enjoyed.

Year 5&6 Girls’ Football: Well done to the children who took part in the girls’ football competition. St. Mary’s played their first match together as a team, winning two out of three of their matches and only losing out to the overall winners of the tournament. They all showed great sportsmanship, supporting and encouraging each other. Well done to everyone.
